Analysis and Countermeasures of Mistranslation in English Translation of Chinese Classics——A Case Study of Ming and Qing Novels
Abstract
This paper deeply analyzes the problem of mistranslation in the English translation of classics, and explores the impact of cultural differences and language barriers on the quality of translation, especially the accuracy and communication effect of the translation. The study pointed out that the English translation of Ming and Qing novels often faces many challenges such as cultural background, vocabulary and syntactic structure differences, which can easily lead to mistranslation or inappropriate cultural communication. To this end, the paper proposes several countermeasures to improve the quality of translation: first, it is necessary to accurately grasp the cultural background and language characteristics of the original text to ensure that the cultural connotation of the original text is not lost during translation; second, it is necessary to respect the style and tone of the original text and avoid mechanical literal translation; third, it is necessary to strengthen the cross-cultural understanding and training of translators, understand the original text from multiple angles, improve the accuracy and communication effect of translation, and ultimately better present the spirit and value of classics.
