Abstract

As the carrier of human culture and thought, art and literature have always occupied an important position in the dissemination and shaping of ethical and moral concepts. No matter ancient tragedies and epics, or modern novels and dramas, artistic and literary works show the diversity and complexity of ethical and moral issues through their unique artistic expression. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the ethical and moral concepts in art literature and their philosophical significance, to deeply analyze how these concepts are expressed in literary works of different historical periods, and to explore the philosophical thoughts behind them. First of all, the article defines the concept of ethics, reviews its historical evolution in philosophy and literature, and clarifies how art literature becomes the carrier of the expression and dissemination of ethical concepts. Secondly, by analyzing the ethical and moral issues in classical and modern artistic and literary works, such as good and evil, justice and injustice, freedom and responsibility, the thesis illustrates the ethical and moral conflicts and philosophical dialectics in literary creation, especially how writers balance artistic freedom and moral responsibility in their creation. Further, the paper also discusses the influence of ethical concepts in art and literature on society and culture, and analyzes how ethical concepts in literary works of different historical stages reflect and shape the ethical structure and cultural values of society. Through case studies of classical literary works, especially Shakespeare's Hamlet, Dante's Divine Comedy and Tolstoy's War and Peace, this paper also demonstrates how art and literature can express profound philosophical reflections through individual and collective ethical dilemmas. The article holds that art literature is not only the mirror image of social ethics, but also participates in the reconstruction and reflection of ethical concepts. Finally, the paper points out that although modern art literature is more diverse and complex in the expression of ethics, its exploration and reflection in the philosophical sense still maintain the internal connection with classical literature, and trigger the reflection on the concept of cross-cultural ethics in the context of globalization. The contribution of this study lies in providing a deep philosophical analysis of the relationship between art, literature and ethics, revealing the multi-dimensional aspect of ethics and morality in literary works and its promoting effect on the development of human thought and society, and providing a new perspective and research framework for the future study of ethics, literary theory and philosophy.
