Study on the importance of historical and cultural background knowledge to the translation of tourist attractions
Abstract
Abstract:This study examines the pivotal role of historical and cultural background knowledge in enhancing translation quality at tourist sites. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research synthesizes quantitative and qualitative data from various sources, including tourist guides, online reviews, academic journals, and interviews with tour guides and translators. The quantitative analysis employs a statistical model to evaluate the impact of factors such as depth of historical knowledge, familiarity with cultural nuances, linguistic proficiency, and translation experience on translation quality. Findings indicate that historical knowledge is the most significant factor, exhibiting strong positive correlations across all variables. Qualitative insights reveal challenges related to cultural nuances and emphasize the importance of historical accuracy. Statistical tests, including ANOVA and Chi-Square, confirm the significance of these relationships. This study highlights the essential need for integrating comprehensive historical and cultural insights to enhance translation accuracy and enrich the tourist experience.
