Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the role of traditional music in Chinese comprehensive classroom and its influence on students. CCOM (Central Conservatory of Music) was chosen as a case study for the study, where researchers interviewed students and professors to gather data on the impact of incorporating traditional music into the curriculum. We interviewed four professors and four students to gather data on how the curriculum affects students, enabling them to develop their cultural identity and increasing their pride in their culture. It also allows us to highlight the challenges educators face in integrating traditional Chinese music and its proposed solutions. The study also included observational data, particularly from three courses, which allowed researchers to look more closely at content, student engagement, and teaching methods. The study highlights the importance of traditional music as a medium for students to connect with their cultural roots and develop an identity in the context associated with them. In addition, traditional music also allows students to learn about their history, connect with each other through their shared past and culture, and promote intergenerational communication.
